Falcons keep first-round focus on offense, take RB Robinson

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons took an offensive skill position player in the first round for the third consecutive year by selecting running back Bijan Robinson with the eighth pick of the NFL draft on Thursday night.Robinson was regarded as the top running back in the draft after rushing for 1,580 yards with 18 touchdowns for Texas last season. Robinson, clocked at 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine, provides power and speed to a Falcons offense which has emphasized the running game under coach Arthur Smith.The Falcons’ leadership team of general manager Terry Fontenot and Smith also emphasized skill positions on offense in the first rounds of the past two drafts. (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders began the work of addressing their anemic defense by selecting Texas A&M edge rusher Tyree Wilson on Thursday with the seventh overall pick of the NFL draft.Wilson (6-foot-6, 271 pounds) could boost a pass rush that struggled outside of end Maxx Crosby. The Raiders were 30th last season with 1.6 sacks per game.Wilson made 14 tackles for loss and sevens sacks last year at Texas A&M, making 10 starts before a foot injury ended his season. He was a second-team AP All-American.The Raiders, who went 6-11, have plenty of work left over the final two days of the draft. DENVER (KDVR) -- A Colorado Avalanche team doctor called an ambulance for a woman found "highly intoxicated" when employees were checking on forward Valeri Nichushkin on Saturday in Seattle, a police report shows. Nichushkin missed Game 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs that night and has been away from the team since the incident.FOX31 obtained police records from the Seattle Police Department describing the woman in the back of an ambulance at the Four Seasons Hotel. A South Florida mother is asking for answers a day after, police said, her 15-year-old son was shot and killed in a North Miami-Dade neighborhood.Speaking with 7News on Thursday, the mother of Barry Ellis III said she’s still reeling over the sudden loss of her oldest child.“That’s my backbone, you know?
